Various statementwere were made in 1957 by various Israeli leaders after Israel was forced to withdraw its army from the Sinai peninsula (due to US and USSR pressure). Here is one.
Menachem Begin in the Knesset: "On 8 November you said: The liberation of an area of the homeland. The minister of justice knows what these words mean in international law, and as you agreed today to withdraw the Israeli forces from an area which the government designated as a "liberated territory", who will regard a "liberated territory" in the future as part of the homeland ? Don’t see the danger? What is the difference between Nazareth and Gaza ? [Note: Nazareth was not included in the area envisaged for the "Jewish State" according to the UN Partition Plan and was thus conquered by the Jewish forces – The Webmaster]. In Nazareth live Arabs and so do in Gaza. We liberated Nazareth in opposition to the decision of the United Nations. If we accept to withdraw Israeli forces from a liberated area, liberated according to you, are you certain that tomorrow, on the base of this declaration, Israel will not be required to remove its forces from Nazareth?"
