Bombing Egypt in 1970 (2)
Ze’ev Schiff, Ha’aretz, 23 July 1970:
“The bombing targets should be military, and if these are not sufficient, it is necessary to widen to various strategical targets…
We cannot expect that we will achieve our aims within a short time and few bombs. The effects of such acts accumulate slowly. We bombed near the [Suez) canal for a few months until we felt the results…From the mistakes the Americans committed in Vietnam we must at least learn that bombings are not sufficient to win a war; they must be a part of a wider system of tools…”
Benyamin Amidor, Ha’aretz, 4 Feburary 1971 (“The Egyptians do not understand that they have stopped to be a serious and independent military power”):
“It is difficult to gather from Egyptian official statements that they are fully aware of the long-term security implications of the Aswan dam which will increase in the future.”
